Shades Of Blue – Eye Trick or Video Edit?

Here is an interesting video which shows a piece of paper which has 4 different shades of blue on it. But when a pencil is put over the lines suddenly the colors either side merge and appear to be the same.

So is this just the eye being tricked, or has the creator used video editing software to fool us?

This video is a hot topic with opinion split. The creator says that it is genuine. The only way to really find out for yourself is to do it on your own – using a drawing program on your computer such as Paint exactly the same as this guy did, print it out, grab a pencil and see for yourself!

That’s a clever visual trick. Our eyes do deceive us.

I think I’ve figured it out. If you take a piece of coloured paper and fold it three times, then slightly flatten it. The way the light falls on each section will cause it to appear to be a different shade.

But then again, I could be wrong :-)
